Probably the most annoying "feature" I've encountered in AT LEAST A YEAR!

No one dealing with it will want anything to do with anything you sell. You should get rid of it.

I am getting io errors when I try to access some files/directories in order to overwrite the contents on my 2TB disk. When I try to perform a scan of the volume to find & fix any errors it stops at 21% with low system memory, helpfully suggesting I use windows if I have an NTFS or FAT file system. However, since the NAS file system is the default one created during setup, I do not think I can do that. I have stopped the media and FTP servers and removed the backup packages, but all to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions either to:
1) get the scan to complete using the NSA310 or
2) if I can use CHKDisk in windows and how I might go about it if I can?

I recently purchased a NSA320 for use secure FTP; the product documentation also states that FTP over Explicit TTL/SSL is supported

I am also a developer of backup software that uses FTP; and therefore security over a network, especially a WAN, is paramount.

Problem:

The FTP command

PROT P<EOL>

Returns

534 Fallback to [C]<EOL>

Issuing the command

PROT C<EOL>

works but this effectively removes the security.

Is this a bug or is there a configuration problem or other work around?

BTW: This product is much faster than my D-link NAS 320 so I would prefer to use it if the security issue can be resolved.

Hi can someone help please, i have the nsa310 and an external drive connected via usb on back, the question is how do i backup the internal drive to the usb drive, sorry no manuals and cant find any info off net

First time poster here, apologies if there is already a thread on this but I've searched and searched and cannot find an answer. I purchased a NSA310 about six months ago and since the beginning I have been having the same problem with it. I'm only getting around to setting it up properly now, so would appreciate some assistance with it if anyone out there can help.

Basically, I have the NSA310 connected to my Router (Thompson TWG870) via Ethernet, and have it mapped as the X (music), Y (photo) and Z (movie) drives on my Laptop. When I switch the NSA on by pressing the button on the front, it connects within a minute or so, and I'm able to start accessing my files. I have all my iTunes music files on it, so I generally open iTunes and start listening to music or podcasts. Almost always (but not always...), after about 15 minutes or so it loses connection and I have to return to the NSA, switch it off, restart it and then go back to the laptop to do it all over again.

The most recent example of this was this afternoon:

16.43 - Turned on NSA310
16.52 - Opened X Drive in Windows Explorer, no issues.
16.52 - Opened iTunes and started playing a podcast.
17.08 - Podcast stalled, unable to connect to X, Y or Z drives.

I'm aware of the Power Management option in the Admin screens, which (if I remember correctly) was defaulted to 15 minutes, but I've changed that to 180 minutes quite a while back and the problem persists.



Does anyone have any experience with this issue, or any suggestions?

Can i let the zywall response for the second ip and nat it tot the second server ?

Or is it nessesary that i activate the second lan ?
Than i must configurate a second ip in a different range on the server.

I was on 4.22 but updated it to 4.40 today, and changed the setting to 0 minutes. So far, so good! Thanks for the reply, quite a simple resolution so hopefully it works!

what IP is your PC using?
what lights are on/blinking on your NSA and what colours?
what happens if you directly connect the NSA to your PC? (NSA -> network cable -> PC)

Back up to an External volume (which is your USB drive).

So I am just not that good with win7 yet and cannot figure out how to remedy a stupid problem

On win xp which I am intimately aware, I can navigate to the ip address and share of the admin directory, enter admin as my username and password as my password and it lets me right in thru explorer or I can even map that drive with credentials.

But in win7, i do the same thing and I cannot login, I think because win7 puts the name of the computer in my login as the domain and changes what the NAS expects so it will not let me login.

For example say my ip of nas is 22 and my password is pwd. On xp i open \\192.168.0.22\admin and it requests my password and username
admin
pwd
hit enter and it loads
on win 7 I do the same thing and (my computer is named bigboy) appends the login with bigboy each time
so I go to \\192.168.0.22\admin and it ask for password but included the computer name as domain no matter what I do
so it makes my user name into BIGBOY\admin and password pwd. The nas will not let me in (NSA211) and I think it is because it doesn't want the bigboy part of the address.

So how do I get into the admin directory via the explorer in win7

I am actually pretty technical but don't know my way around win7 that well so please help.

Because this forum was offline for a few days, I had to search for another forum for support, because it was not possible connect to my NSA310. I went to the German Zyxel support forum and there were a few topics with people who had the same problem after activated polkast on the NAS drive. No connection possible to the NSA anymore, there was also a warning not to activate Polkast on the forum after installing FW4.40 and polkast is removed from the Firmware. I had to make a hard reset to get connected to my NSA, and I managed to unistalled Polkast. But now I have the same problem with my squeezebox center, so I had to disable this also, is there a solution

Why is there no warning on this forum? and can anyone tell me what is the problem with the new firmware, polkast and squeezebox center?

Lately I've been having to download torrents with multiple files, but I normally need only one or two of those files (I.E. a movie with various resolutions or a program with multiple versions for each OS) and most of them are HUGE (3GB per file, adding up to 21-30GB per torrent).

I really don't want to download the unwanted additional 17-27GB. Especially if the file is 100GB+.

So Zyxel, please add this feature and the NSA-220 will the PERFECT media server!

- ZIP/ISO/RAR extraction
- A better file browser

my pc is connected to this po$ modem via ethernet cable.
pc is configured to receive static ip addy based on mac, and it is the very first device to get one, in the network of 3 total. the other 2 are both wireless devices.

i need to forward 2 ports, udp2934 and udp2935 for a specific application. actually this application is capable of upnp on it's own however it simply can't achieve this with zyxel devices for some reason so manual user intervention is required.

tried forwarding ports as a range, nogo
tried forwarding ports 1 by 1, nogo
tried without port forwarding, nogo

tried setting up default server (dmz) without any port forwarding, nogo

tried firewall off, nogo
tried firewall on, nogo
tried firewall on with rules set, nogo

tried packet without filtering rules, nogo
tried packet with filtering rules, nogo

tried upnp, nogo

also tried every conceivable combination of the above options with each other, nogo nogo nogo nogo....

any ideas before i snap and got banned?

I just bought this NAS and I havent found an option to automatically power on device in desired time? In scheduler I can set schedule for power off / reboot, but no option for automatic power on?

Is there some possibility to do that?

I would like to schedule automatic power off at 1AM and automatic power on at 6AM, but I can schedule only power off, in menu there is no option for power off

I have a new NSA310 which I have loaded up with my data, but I've noticed the HDD is constantly active for the majority of the time anyway, (even if the network cable is removed). I have only caught it in sleep mode twice since I've had it (4 days)

I've stopped all services, just leaving the Media service running (I stream my movies/mp3s/photos etc to a LG Smart TV box). All shares are set to private, cpu is running at about 8% and memory shows as 30% used. About 220GB of the 500GB disk is used. Internal temperature is around 45C. The logs don't show anything of interest, i.e. no logins other than myself.

I've reformatted the drive once and reloaded my data to see if that helped, but it made no difference. (Tip: REALLY worth having a Gigabit switch to speed things up dramatically)

Anyone got any ideas what is causing the HDD activity, or know of a way to interrogate the unit to see what is going on? The constant clattering of the disk, even though it is quiet, is beginning to annoy me!

I've installed the SqueezeBox app on my NSA310 and it generally works fine except it can't play WMA files and domestic BBC programmes don't play. I have enquired elsewhere and it has been suggested that perhaps the "NAS does not have FAAD working correctly to decode aac streams. BBC streams are aac or wma - neither of which softsqueeze can decode itself, so you need the server to do the decoding for you."

I have tried using the SoftSqueeze player and the SqueezePlay player without success when using the NSA310 as the server but if I use my PC as the server they work fine with WMA and BBC radio. I'd prefer to use the NSA310 as it's power consumption is much lower.

I don't know about FAAD but Googling it it appears that this is a public licence program that translates audio files. I have no idea whether this can be added to the NSA310 or how to go about it. Has anyone got the Squeezebox app to work with WMA files and domestic BBC programmes? It works with BBC World Service but no BBC R1, R2, R3 etc nor local BBC stations.

I have a NSA310 and would like to use a nzb client in my nas. Then the nas can take care of my downloads.
It is not possible in a standard way.

Is it possible on a NSA310?
If yes, has somebody experience with it and can tell me how to do this?
