Diagnosing failure of internet connection

Postby chrisisbd on Fri Jun 16, 2017 1:44 am

I have a VMG3925-B10B which I am using to connect to my VDSL2 service. I have connected another router to the same phone connection so I know the service is there and working.

The VMG3925-B10B status says the DSL connection is made with a download speed of 30Mb/s and an upload speed of 2Mb/s.but I get the diagnostic pop-up in the Web GUI saying that it can't connect to the internet. So how can I diagnose what's going on? I seem to have a 'physical' connection working but the router itself says it's not working. I can't see any messages in the logs at all.

Any/all help would be most welcome!

It's OK, I've got it working, it took a while though!

The basic problem was that my ISP (PlusNet, UK) has a slightly odd configuration for VDSL2/FTTC and so I wasn't able to use the defaults or guess how it should be configured. I got the exact details from the PlusNet web site and when I put them in it all worked OK.

I also realised that to get logging to work on the VMG3925 it has to be enabled!
